Set up Stampdrop with the equipment you already have
Stampdrop runs in a web browser, so no app install or special hardware is needed. Setup takes three steps. Logged in? The setup page walks you through it in three steps.
1. Scan to open your counter
Log in on any computer. On your dashboard you’ll see a Scan to open your counter QR code. Point the counter phone or tablet’s camera at it and tap the link. Counter mode opens already signed in. There’s no password to type.
- The code works once and expires after 10 minutes. Tap New code for another.
- A paired device can only stamp and redeem cards. It can’t open settings, billing, messages or customer lists.
- See and sign out paired devices anytime in Settings → Counter devices.
- The first time, tap Allow camera. Stampdrop remembers it on that device.
Prefer a scanner? Plug a USB or Bluetooth 2D scanner into the computer, open Counter mode and just scan. 1D barcode scanners can’t read QR codes.
Tips for your device
📱 Phone
Any iPhone or Android phone with a camera.
- On your computer, open the Stampdrop dashboard and scan the “Scan to open your counter” QR with the phone’s camera. Counter mode opens already signed in.
- Add it to your home screen. iPhone (Safari): Share → Add to Home Screen. Android (Chrome): ⋮ menu → Add to Home screen or Install app.
- Tap Allow camera, then Allow. Stampdrop remembers it on this device. If you missed it: iPhone Settings → Safari → Camera → Allow; Android Chrome → site settings (lock icon) → Camera → Allow.
- Hold the customer’s card QR inside the frame, about 15–25 cm away. The phone beeps and shows the stamp count.
- Keep the screen awake while serving: raise Auto-Lock (iPhone Settings → Display & Brightness) or Screen timeout (Android Settings → Display), and keep it on a charger.
📲 Tablet (iPad / Android)
Great on a stand next to the till.
- Scan the “Scan to open your counter” QR on your dashboard with the tablet’s camera. Then add the page to the home screen (iPad Safari: Share → Add to Home Screen; Android Chrome: ⋮ → Add to Home screen).
- Allow the camera when prompted. Counter mode uses the rear camera, so angle the tablet so customers can hold their phone up to the back, or use a stand that faces the camera toward them.
- To lock the tablet to Stampdrop: iPad Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access; Android Settings → Security → App pinning.
- Set Auto-Lock / Screen timeout to Never (or the longest option) and keep the tablet plugged in.
- Optional: pair a Bluetooth 2D scanner with the tablet (see the scanner option) for faster scans.
💻 Laptop / desktop
Uses the webcam or a plugged-in scanner.
- Log in at getstampdrop.com in Chrome, Edge or Safari and click Open Counter mode.
- Pin the tab (right-click the tab → Pin) or bookmark it so staff can find it fast.
- Allow camera access when the browser asks. If blocked, click the camera or lock icon in the address bar → Allow, then reload.
- Webcams are often fixed-focus, so a USB 2D scanner is usually quicker on a computer. Plug one in and it just works.
- Stop the screen sleeping while open: Windows Settings → System → Power; Mac System Settings → Lock Screen.
🔫 USB / Bluetooth 2D scanner
Fastest at a busy counter.
⚠️ Your scanner must be a 2D (QR-capable) model. 1D/linear barcode scanners can only read classic striped barcodes and cannot read Stampdrop QR codes.
- Plug the USB scanner into the computer, tablet (via USB adapter) or POS terminal. No driver is needed: it types like a keyboard.
- Bluetooth scanner: put it in pairing mode (see its manual, usually a pairing barcode), then pair it in the device’s Bluetooth settings. Choose HID / keyboard mode.
- Make sure the scanner adds an Enter (carriage return) after each scan. Most do by default; if not, scan the “Add CR suffix” code in its manual.
- Open Counter mode. You’ll see “USB scanner ready”. Just scan; you don’t need to click anything.
- Scanning a phone screen? Turn the customer’s screen brightness up and hold the scanner a little farther back if it struggles.
🧾 POS terminal browser
Run it alongside your POS.
- Open the terminal’s web browser (if it has one) and log in at getstampdrop.com, then open Counter mode and bookmark it. If the terminal has a camera, you can scan the dashboard pairing QR instead.
- If the terminal has a built-in or attached 2D scanner, it works like a USB scanner: scan and the stamp is added.
- If the terminal has a camera, allow camera access when asked.
- Some locked-down POS systems block other websites. If so, run Counter mode on a phone or tablet next to the POS instead.
- Keep the browser tab open during service so staff can switch to it in one tap.
2. Print your poster
Go to Dashboard → Poster and print it (Ctrl/Cmd+P). New customers scan it with their phone camera to get a card in Apple Wallet, Google Wallet or the web. Put it where people queue or pay.
3. You’re live
Share your signup link (shown in Setup) on Instagram, your website or receipts. Want to check everything first? Setup → You’re live → Test a scan shows a test code that checks your camera or scanner without stamping anyone. Card colors and rewards can be changed anytime in the card designer.
Staff tips
- One scan = one stamp. Scan once per qualifying purchase.
- Green ✅ means stamped. Orange ⏳ “Too soon” means that card was just stamped. That’s the cooldown stopping double stamps.
- When 🎁 Reward ready appears, tap Redeem only when you hand over the reward.
- New customer? Point them to the poster QR. They join in seconds, no app needed.
- Camera not working? Type or paste the card code into the box under the scanner.
Troubleshooting
- Camera shows nothing: allow camera access for getstampdrop.com in your browser settings and reload. Only one app can use the camera at a time.
- Scanner beeps but nothing happens: make sure it’s a 2D scanner in keyboard (HID) mode and adds Enter after each scan, and that Counter mode is the open tab.
- Scanner types into the wrong place: close other windows so Counter mode is in front.
- “Too soon”: that card was stamped moments ago. The cooldown stops double stamps.
